This project was a collaboration with Staff Photographer Mark Zaleski. This photofilm about Riverside resident Sean Thompson and his moonlighting career as a professional Lucha Libre wrestler with a unique character earned second place in the NPPA monthly multimedia contest for February 2008.

The boos and catcalls begin the second Sean Thompson struts toward the wrestling ring. Even before a voice announces that Thompson's wrestling character -- Sgt. Stryker, also known as 'la migra,' Spanish slang for border-patrol agent -- has arrived, the heavily Mexican audience starts getting riled up.

Wounded Warrior Project in San Diego

This is a project that Press-Enterprise Staff Photographer Ed Crisostomo and I collaborated on. Ed did a fine job gathering the elements that we needed to put this package together. This photofilm of U.S. Army Spc. Saul Martinez from Bloomington California learning to walk with new prosthetic legs as part of the Wounded Warrior Project at the Naval Medical Center San Diego earned third place in the monthly NPPA multimedia contest for September 2007.
